Moths and nests
July was another mix!
Last week was wet so didn’t get much done. Week before was hot (30) went to Ardtun one evening and went swimming a couple of nights.
Led one of my bolted projects earlier in the month.
The Lawyer led an E2 at Crag X on Skye, there was a shower when I was seconding so the midges came out and we left.
Cynthia trapped (and released) some moths in my garden, there were 48 species, one had not been found on Mull before and another had not been found on Mull, Coll and Tiree before. Photos are here Moths
My tally of nests this year is 49 (less than last year).
1 Mute Swan, 1 two years ago.
1 Greylag goose, 1 last year
1 Kestrel, 1 two years ago
15 Oystercatchers, 20 last year.
9 Common gull, 20 last year.
5 Swallow, 6 last year.
1 Meadow pipit, 2 last year.
2 Rock pipits, none recently.
1 Pied wagtail, none recently.
1 Dunnock, 1 last year.
1 Robin, 1 last year.
2 Blackbirds, none recently.
2 Song thrush, 1 last year.
1 Blue tit, 3 last year.
1 Great tit, 1 last year.
2 Hooded crow, 2 three years ago.
2 Raven, 3 last year.
1 Chaffinch, none recently.
There are about 6,000 nest records for blue tits each year in UK so my one record is not significant. There are less than 20 rock pipit records each year so my two represent more than 10% of the total.
