Historic Film
My grandparents lived in Musselburgh. My grandfather kept up to date with technology and was among the first in Scotland to use colour cine film.
One summer he left his family behind and went with the local fishing fleet to Stornoway via the Forth and Clyde canal. The film he took then, of herring fishing, is available online at the Scottish Screen Archive, as are his other films.
His film taken on VE day was used recently on a channel 5 programme, this will be repeated on Friday night at 7. His contributions start after 4mins.
There is also film on the programme from Ben Humble who wrote the classic book ‘On Scottish Hills’.
Photo of Alec Lowe above was taken by Robert Moody.
The link below should work for a while.
